Parenting Hacks: Getting Crafty At Home

Published by kulturekhazana1 on

As summer rolls around and the kids spend more time at home, there’s that  challenge of keeping them occupied and engaged in meaningful activities. I’ve found some new practical and creative ways to keep them entertained, stimulated and happy–all without technology!

Exploration AKA Get Scrappy With It!

My personal favorite –  to build your own pencil/craft box. You can use an old shoebox, scraps and have your child decorate it with stickers, cutouts and fun colors. Our free downloadable coloring sheets are easy to print, decorate and use. Have them collect all their supplies around the house and store them in their new custom craft box – they will get busy and clean up!

DIY Together

Help your kids find inspiration by exploring DIY project ideas together. Look for Pinterest ideas, browse craft websites, or watch DIY tutorial videos. Encourage them to choose projects that align with their interests and offer guidance when needed. Maybe try leaning into culturally responsive teaching to help foster understanding, unity, empathy and inclusion. We are so grateful that we get to share products that teach children about South Asian cultures and have amazing activity kits highlighting the beauty and celebration of it all year round.

Gallery Exhibit – Display Their Creations
The fun of show and tell!  Display their artwork around the house, create a DIY gallery wall, or encourage them to give their creations to family and friends. A lot of our activities can be used as decor for celebrations or just around the house. Have them create various projects throughout the week and have a “Gallery exhibit” – with lemonade, small bites and a walk through the art work.

Have you come across some DIY craft project hacks? We would love to learn and possibly share with other parents who are in the same boat as all of us.
